When a new order is placed, when a note is added, when a document is loaded, when a status changes, when a hold goes on or comes off, or when an order is cancelled, Appraisal Shield posts a webhook to Appraisal Host. The webhook itself is small. It says what happened and carries an encrypted order id. Appraisal Host calls Appraisal Shield back with that id and retrieves the order detail, and the order exists in Appraisal Host with its property, fee, due date and appraisal type filled in.

The Seven Events Appraisal Shield Sends
- New order. A lender has placed one.
- Appraisal note. A note on the order. This one splits two ways, see below.
- Document loaded. A document was added on the Appraisal Shield side, and Appraisal Host retrieves it.
- Status update. The order's status has changed.
- Hold placed. The lender has paused the order.
- Hold removed. The lender has released it.
- Order cancelled. The order has been withdrawn.
The second one is worth a closer look. Notes and revision requests come down the same channel, with a flag on the message that separates them. Appraisal Host reads that flag: a plain note becomes a message on the file, and a note flagged as a revision request becomes a correction request instead. Nobody on your team has to open it and decide which it was.
What Appraisal Host Sends Back, and What It Doesn't

That's the whole outbound surface, and it's worth being straight about what isn't in it. There's no inspection completed message on this connection. There's no payment call. And holds run one way only, which is the next section.

Holds Come From the Lender's Side
On this connection, pausing an order is the lender's move.
Appraisal Shield sends a hold placed event when the lender pauses a file and a hold removed event when they release it. Both land on the order in Appraisal Host without anybody rekeying anything, so the file your team is looking at reflects what the lender did rather than what somebody remembered to pass along.
What doesn't happen is the reverse. Appraisal Host doesn't push a hold back to Appraisal Shield, because the connection has no call for it.
One Contact Per Lender
Appraisal Shield orders route to the contact you've set as the default for that lender.
